Terroage is a coined word that combines "terroir," which describes the climate, natural features, and human activities, with "mariage," which describes the pairing of food and alcohol, or marriage. This project brings together the power of Tohoku to share new and moving experiences with the world through the symphony of Tohoku's people, food, scenery, and culture.

Based on the concept that "the ultimate marriage is found in the place of production," Akiu Winery holds events that connect local people, food (and alcohol), scenery, and culture, and promotes activities to spread the appeal of various parts of Tohoku to the world through terroage, and to attract tourists from both Japan and abroad.
